How to choose a good dog food

First you start with 10 points. Minus 1 mark for every grain and byproducts. Minus 2 marks for bha, bht, ethoxyquin, and menadione and sodium selenite. Minus 1 mark for artificial colouring. Add one mark for each named meat products. Add two marks for each organ meat. Add one mark for each chelated mineral. Add one mark if the first three ingredients are meat products. Add one mark if the kibble uses mixed tocopherols as the preservative. Grades: Below 10 forget it! 10 to 15 you can do better. 15 to 20 good job! 20 and above you are an awesome pet owner. Orijen dog treats

Hills Science Diet review

This review is about Hills Science Diet. I rate it one star. Representative formula: Adult Advanced Fitness The first ingredient is whole grain corn. Yucky plant based protein and a filler. 😟 The second ingredient is chicken byproduct meal. In addition to organs, the nutritious part, it can contain almost every part of a chicken so it is a controversial product. 😟 The third ingredient is soybean meal. Same as corn. Below average protein and average fat with 30-40% meat which makes the rating one star. 🌟 Taste test: N/A

Keratoconjuntivitis sicca in dogs:

Keratoconjuntivitis sicca is dry eye, it is the inflammation of the cornea and surrounding tissues from drying. It affects the tear glands, so the dogs with this disease cannot produce enough tears. The disease can be diagnosed using the Schimer tear test. It uses a small piece of paper that is measured using millimeters. If the wet part goes 15 millimeters and beyond, the dog is fine. If it goes between 15 and 11 millimeters, the result is borderline. If it is between 10 and 5 millimeters, it is dry eye. If it is less than 5 millimeters, the result is severe dry eye. My dog has regular dry eye. We use drugs prescribed by the veterinarian and cotton swabs to get rid of the mucus-like film in her eye. Unfortunately, she doesn't like us doing that, and squirms crazily. 😜

Pros and cons of kibble and pelleted rodent foods:

Pros: Convenient Proven to provide complete nutrition to pets If kept in proper storage places, will not spoil easily Cons: Too little diversity Dog and cat food is often grain based Not fresh May get moldy Unlike homemade foods, you don't know the quality of the ingredients If you plan to feed your pet kibble or pelleted foods with hay for every meal they have, use a high quality brand. Brands like Oxbow, Orijen and Acana make good choices. Orijen also has a freeze dried raw formula for more freshness but you have to add water to it. Another quality freeze-dried product is a brand called Woof. What I do: Acana kibble makes up the majority of my dog's diet. I also feed her Woof as toppings and treats. Oxbow hay and pellets make up half of my guinea pig's diet. We feed her fresh romaine lettuce, carrots, and apple for some quality fresh food.

Canine food allergies

My dog Browny has food allergies. She is allergic to chicken, corn, wheat, soy, rice, barley, oats, millet and other grains. We feed her a grain free kibble. Her favourite meats are fish, lamb, pork, beef and she also like chicken eggs. Here is a list of the most common dog food allergies: Chicken Beef Lamb Fish Turkey Pork Corn Wheat Soy They aren't actually supposed to be allergic to the meat products but they are the ingredients most commonly used in dog foods so they are on the list. Stay tuned for my next article which will highlight the best dog foods for allergy sufferers!

This review is about burp!. I rate it four stars. Representative formula: Kangaroo fillet The first ingredient is fresh Australian kangaroo. 😄 The second ingredient is probiotics. Good for digestive health. 😄 The third ingredient is gelling agents. Used commonly for thickening properties. 😐 100% meat with high protein and low fat. I think it the fat increases a bit then I can rate it five stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟 Taste test: Browny loves it!

Purina Beyond Review

This review is about Purina Beyond. I rate it two stars. Representative formula: Tuna and Egg The first ingredient is tuna. 😄 The second ingredient is pea starch. Filler. 😟 The third ingredient is chicken meal. Meat concentrate. 😄 Around 40% meat with average protein and fat. Unfortunately this food has menadione sodium bisulfite complex which causes liver toxicity otherwise I would rate it three stars. 🌟🌟 Taste test: N/A

About their health

Image
My pets are relatively healthy with the occasional problem. My dog has keratoconjuntivitis sicca, which is dry eye. She is already twelve and a Shih tzu and she is coping well with it. My guinea pig is a bit overweight but we are cutting down on her pellets and giving her more floor time so she should be losing a little weight soon!   See her fat belly? 😄😝

What Milo Eats

Image
My guinea pig eats a variety of foods. Her hay and pellets are Oxbow and we buy romaine lettuce, carrots, apples, and bananas. We used to buy her the commercial treats and then she got overweight so we don't buy them anymore.

What Browny Eats

Image
My dog Browny eats a brand of kibble called Acana. The formula is regionals Pacifica. It is a very good and expensive meat based brand of kibble. Dogfoodadvisor give it five stars. Also sometimes my mom cooks homemade food for her.
