Keratoconjuntivitis sicca in dogs:

Keratoconjuntivitis sicca is dry eye, it is the inflammation of the cornea and surrounding tissues from drying. It affects the tear glands, so the dogs with this disease cannot produce enough tears. The disease can be diagnosed using the Schimer tear test. It uses a small piece of paper that is measured using millimeters. If the wet part goes 15 millimeters and beyond, the dog is fine. If it goes between 15 and 11 millimeters, the result is borderline. If it is between 10 and 5 millimeters, it is dry eye. If it is less than 5 millimeters, the result is severe dry eye.

My dog has regular dry eye. We use drugs prescribed by the veterinarian and cotton swabs to get rid of the mucus-like film in her eye. Unfortunately, she doesn't like us doing that, and squirms crazily. 😜
